St. Olaf College
Tesoro Cultural Center Tour
We invite you to a "trunk show" and tour of the Tesoro Cultural Center, located at the National Historic landmark called The Fort just south of Morrison. Tesoro means "Treasure" in Spanish, and this fort is the first authentic replica of Bent’s Old Fort, a private international trading fort originally located near La Junta, CO, from 1833 to 1849.
The Fort strategically important in the opening of the American Southwest; many cultures lived, traded, and passed through there, including many Indian tribes, the Spanish, French, American trappers and traders, and Freedmen and slaves. You'll learn about this and much more during the 90-minute program, which will elaborate on the role of the fort in western U.S. history.
Interested in staying for dinner? The Fort restaurant features authentic 1830s-style food!
